The white appears to be a little less soft (at first) versus the colored/darker shirts which are extremely soft from the start.  Washing the white shirts will solve this problem and they will become as soft as the darker ones.

The racer back style of the top allows for it to drape nicely on your body while not pinching or feeling tight.  The tops run a little large so allow for that when ordering if you want a more fitted look.

Be sure to take your bust and waist sizes into consideration.  The stated sizes when ordering will give you more of a draped effect.  If you want a more loose fit, go up a size and if you want a more fitted size, go down a size.

There are a variety of colors to choose from:  Orange, Blue, Pink, Black, Light Green, Light Blue, White, Purple, Yellow, plus White, Light Blue, Black, Light Green, Orange and Dark Purple with Design

Choosing the Right Yoga Mat

Yoga mats are a personal preference and luckily there are many to choose from right now.  About fifteen years ago when the Yoga phenomenon was just getting started, there were only two basic choices:  purple or blue.  Now, choosing a yoga mat is easy because there is one to suit every priority and preference.

Sivan Health and Fitness Yoga Set 6-Piece– Includes 1/2″ Ultra Thick NBR Exercise Mat, 2 Yoga Blocks, 1 Yoga Mat Towel, 1 Yoga Hand Towel and a Yoga Strap

Choose a yoga mat not because of its pretty color or pattern.  Choose a yoga mat that meets your needs and is able to keep you stable while you are performing the many different yoga poses.  You also want your yoga mat to be easily stored and completely portable, comfy and cushy.

There are a variety of choices so choose one that is environmentally friendly as well as one that picks up on your personality.  Mats have personalities too in that some are thicker than others, made of different materials and can come with different surface textures.

Use this guide to help you find a yoga mat you can be blissfully happy with — one that suits your practice, priorities, lifestyle, values and budget. No matter what the stores tell you, that’s the best yoga mat for you!

Here are a few differences in the thickness of your mat to consider when purchasing your yoga mat:

* Thin Yoga Mat (1/16 inch)
* Standard Yoga Mat (1/8 inch)
* Thick Yoga Mat (1/4 inch)

The thickness of the mat is important because that will determine how comfortable it is and how well it will work for you.  You don’t want too thin of a mat if you are going to be doing crescent lunges because you will bang up your knee.

If you pick too thick of a mat (1/4 inch) you could become more unstable in some of the poses because you won’t feel a strong connection to the floor.

The standard yoga mat is about 1/8 inch thick.  This could work well for you and allow you to perform most of the yoga poses.

The material used in a yoga mat is important because it dictates the texture, sponginess, stickiness and eco-friendliness of the mat.  This will also determine how it wears over time.

Most mats are made of vinyl or PVC.  Some of the newer mats on the market include more earth-friendly options such as recycled or natural rubber, organic or natural cotton, or jute.

Some people are allergic to the latex in yoga mats so if this describes you, avoid any of the mats that are made of natural rubber.  The mat that most people choose is the one made of PVC which can last for more than ten years.

The good news about PVC is that it has the most “give” and sponginess.  The mats with the least sponginess are those made from jute and cotton.

TPE or thermoplastic elastomer is another choice.  This is a man-made blend of plastic and rubber polymers.  TPE mats can be a little less durable, more environmentally friendly but still deliver good traction.

Eco or natural mats can be made of natural rubber, organic cotton or jute.  Eco mats don’t grip to the floor as easily but the texture of the mat provides great traction for your body.  Eco mats, like the TPE mats, won’t last as long as PVC mats but they are great if sustainability is what you want in a mat.

Overall, be sure to choose a mat that meets your texture, stickiness and eco-friendly-ness guide.

Power Yoga Emphasizes Strength and Flexibility

Power Yoga is closely modeled after another style of yoga called Ashtanga.  This style of yoga is a vigorous, fitness based style of yoga.

Some people associate power yoga with “gym yoga.”  Power yoga, though, doesn’t follow a set series of yoga poses so the classes offered can vary widely.  Since power yoga emphasizes strength and flexibility, it was introduced into the gyms of America as more and more people wanted yoga as a way to work out.

Power yoga is a more advanced form of yoga which helps to build muscles because it requires increased amounts of strength, focus and energy.  Even though it may appear to be evolved from the basic movements of yoga, it is definitely not a basic course.

Power yoga differs from regular yoga in that you are required to have a deeper, more focused participation.  Whereas in yoga you hold 1-3 breaths, in power yoga you hold for five full breaths.

Your muscles are being challenged because your mind and body have to work together to continue a succession without giving up and continuing holding a position.  This type of yoga takes it to a whole new level because posing, moving, breathing and increasing flexibility are all happening together at the same time.

To make the core and back stronger, power yoga uses isometric exercises to build core strength.  The word isometric originates from the words “same” and “length” which means holding one position without moving.

Training the core of your body allows for more flexibility and balance which can increase the strength and health of your entire body.  When you practice power yoga, you are in a room generally with a higher temperature in order to help keep the muscles warm and to release additional toxins from the body (via sweat).

Below are some of the benefits/effects of power yoga on your body:

* By using your own body weight for resistance your arm and shoulder strength are multiplied
* Your spine is being supported better than ever by your lats and other back muscles
* Hip flexors are stretched and rebuilt
* Holding postures for extended breaths increases mental endurance and physical stamina
* Strength, flexibility and endurance increases
* Refine and sharpen abdominals and obliques through building core muscles
* Power yoga tightens and lengthens (where needed) calves, hamstrings, quads and glutes
* Posture begins to correct itself over time

If you are looking for weightloss, checkout the YogaBurn program Click Here!

How does yoga compare to power yoga and is it more beneficial?  These are two entirely different types of yoga so there is no comparison.

Yoga and power yoga have similar foundations (stress management and flexibility) but people choose one over the other for obvious reasons:  yoga is used to calm and meditate and power yoga is used for physical prowess.

When practicing yoga, though, you don’t want too much stress placed on physical exercise or you will miss out on the mental and spiritual benefits of yoga.

No matter why you choose yoga, make sure it is for the right reasons:  to harmonize the body, mind and spirit.  Power yoga will allow you to take your fitness to a higher level, build muscle and has an undeniable effect on your total body.

If you are looking for weightloss, checkout the YogaBurn program.

Yoga vs. Strength Training

What comes to mind when you think of strength training?  The gym?  Sore muscles and sweat?  Using your muscles in positions you didn’t know existed and walking away extremely sore?

Strength training requires weights and muscle contractions.  This type of training leaves you sore and requires you to keep it up or start all over again.  Why?  Because once you start building muscles you need to continue or it turns to flab, fat or sagging muscles.

Unless you are someone who is a “gym rat” and working out twice a week, you are probably not going to be a slave to weight workouts, dumbbells or resistance training.

Strength training a couple of times a week to maintain that muscle is advisable if this is how you choose to work out.  It also keeps your metabolism running efficiently and it is the number one bone loss preventative measure.

Yoga, on the other hand, uses your own body weight to help you stay fit.  By practicing yoga, you are putting your body into positions that need to be supported by your muscles.  So you could say you are lifting weights but not gym weights.

If your goal is simply to lose weight, then you may want to checkout YogaBurn, the extremely popular program. If so, Click Here!

Yoga also lets you focus on your being, your feelings and thinking versus focusing on changing and perfecting your outer appearance.  Yoga allows you to increase muscle tone and definition as well as muscle size.  It may take a while longer, more skill, time and determination but it can be done without lifting weights.

The major difference between weight training and yoga is that weights are best if you are looking to “bulk up” and yoga allows you to take a more well-rounded overall approach.

Weight training means that as long as you continue to work out with weights, you will continue to grow the size and strength of your muscles forever.  All you have to do is keep adding more and more weights to your workout (along with all the other machines/methods).

Yoga, on the other hand is a more balanced way of strength training:

* Yoga moves your body the way it is supposed to move.  This allows you to ensure that you are keeping it working and functioning properly
* Yoga helps to reduce your risk of injury
* Yoga conditions your body to perform everyday functions easier:  sitting, walking, bending, twisting and lifting
* Yoga tones muscles all over your body versus weight training where you are isolating and flexing one muscle or muscle group at a time
* In yoga, you use both small and large muscles
* Moving in many directions with yoga is multi-dimensional whereas weight training is one-dimensional
* Yoga stretches muscles as they contract whereas weight training makes the muscle get smaller as it contracts.  Both use eccentric contraction but yoga gives you an elongated look while increasing flexibility in the muscle and joints.  If you don’t stretch properly with weight training, your muscle fibers heal close together, which in turn gives your muscles its compact, bulging look.
* Yoga builds up muscle endurance.  During a yoga workout, you are typically holding and repeating a pose for a period of time.

Some suggest that you mix both weight training and yoga.  If you want a variety, and to see faster results, then do both.

Finding what you love and are comfortable with is the key.  You will also want to incorporate whichever one you choose into your lifestyle forever.   Weight training and yoga are both rewarding and provide different results.  Choose whatever works into your lifestyle and works for you.  There is not right or wrong solution—just get out there and do one or both!

Change Your Body with Yoga

Yoga has become extremely popular these days as more and more people find out about the peaceful and serene feeling you achieve when practicing along with the overall well-being you experience.

Yoga has become so popular that it has now become a $10 billion a year niche with participants spending more and more on yoga-related products and classes.

And why wouldn’t they?   Yoga has been known to heal the mind-body by its ability to not only reduce stress in your life but it is also practiced for the wide-ranging amount of physical health benefits it provides.  While the jury is still out on the scientific research, we do know some of the potential effects it can have on your body.

The Yoga Bible Paperback featuring over 150 yogic postures from the main schools of yoga, including lyengar and Astanga Vinyasa, this book is a comprehensive illustrated step-by-step guide to achieving each posture. It offers advice on altering postures where necessary, enabling beginners to try more difficult positions. Experienced yoga practitioners will also find a number of challenging, advanced positions–perfect inspiration for developing their practice. In addition to postures, the book includes notes on various types of yoga practices as well as a summary of well-known traditional schools of yoga and how they vary. Readers will also find advice from the author on breathing techniques and the benefits of yoga in healing, pregnancy, de-stressing and meditation.

One form of yoga, Hatha, which places emphasis on physical postures, is said to help improve your cognitive functions such as improving not only your focus but your memory as well.  This form of yoga can provide strength and endurance benefits and is a less vigorous style of yoga.

Another form of yoga, Bikram, which is performed in a heated room temperature of approximately 100 degrees, has been found to be effective in increasing hamstring and back flexibility along with shoulder flexibility improvement.

Since yoga is a low-impact form of getting you to move and stretch, it has also been found to reduce stress and anxiety along with heightening the brain chemicals that reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety-related disorders.

Some forms of yoga are more physical than other such as Ashtanga and Power yoga.  These two forms will help you to improve overall muscle tone.

There are certain poses for different parts of your body.  Use poses such as the upward facing dog, the plank pose or the downward facing dog if you want to build upper-body strength.

If you want to up the strength in your abs, hamstrings and quadriceps, practice the standing poses while holding them for several long breaths.  If you want to strengthen your lower back, use poses such as the upward facing dog and the chair pose.  If you practice all of the above poses correctly, you should see improvement in your core strength in the deep abdominal muscles.

Not only will you feel an improvement in your core strength, as you become stronger and more flexible you will see a noticeable improvement in your posture.

By practicing yoga, you will become more aware of your body and if you are slouching or slumping allowing you to adjust your posture to stand and sit “tall.”  Your core will be much stronger because you are practicing standing and sitting poses to develop that core strength.    You need your core muscles to support and maintain each pose.

Yoga can improve your breathing.  By participating in yoga classes, you will be forced to pay attention to your breathing which in turn will help you to relax.  Some yoga classes require specific breathing techniques.  Yoga is not the same as running, cycling or aerobics unless you are participating in one of the more intense forms of yoga, some of which use a heated room.

If you have way too much stress in your life, yoga can help you to feel more relaxed and less stressed.  Some forms of yoga also incorporate meditation techniques into the classes.

One of the most beneficial aspects of yoga is how good it is for your heart.  Not only can yoga help to slow your heart rate but it can also lower your blood pressure.  This is really good news for those with heart disease, high blood pressure or those who have experienced a stroke.

Last, but not least, is the aspect dear to many of us. That is the aspect of losing weight. Yoga programs such as Yoga Burn offer the possibility of shedding those unwanted pounds. For more information about Yoga Burn, Click Here!

The Lessons and Benefits of Yoga

The benefits of yoga are many because it can change your physical and mental capacity while at the same time preparing your mind and body for long-term health.

Yoga provides lasting transformation and instant gratification/results.  In a world where no one has time to stop and think much less find time for exercise, yoga allows you to see results without being discouraged or finding it monotonous with exercise routines that cause stagnation and burn out.

No matter your age, yoga is for you.  Most yoga studios or gyms offer classes that are open to anyone from teenagers to seniors of all ages.  Participating in a yoga class where there are people from all age groups you will feel accepted and included.  If you go to a gym to work out, there are undoubtedly people who are SO much more buff than you which can be a bit discouraging.

Yoga provides a healthy lifestyle because it is not just about “working out.”  Yoga allows you to feel peace and tranquility through focused training.  Yoga removes all the chaos from your life and allows you to become “still” and helps you to maintain that feeling. For Yoga gear and wear, visit Amazon

Yoga helps you to relieve all the stress going on in your life and unclutter your mind.  You become more focused when you feel that your mind is clearing and things aren’t stuck on your brain.  By practicing deep breathing and meditation, you will feel an inner shift from the everyday pressures of life such as work, kids, spouse or finances.

Choose a style of yoga that you feel is beneficial to your lifestyle.  Everyone is different and they accomplish things at a different pace.  Choose relaxation yoga, prenatal yoga (if you are pregnant), power yoga, hot yoga, etc.  Yoga can be practiced anywhere and there are a variety of options to choose from.

If you are a beginner yoga participant, try Hatha yoga because it focuses on basic postures.  If you want to use more of your own body’s resistance, you might want to try power yoga to increase your strength.

Another level up which incorporates a deeper practice of yoga is Bikram (Advanced Yoga) which is also known as hot yoga.  If you choose this form of yoga be prepared to practice in a room whose temperature is set to approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit.  This may be too much for some but if you choose to practice this form you will have a greater chance of eliminating toxins from your body because of the increased production of sweat.

Yoga focuses on strength training and flexibility which provides incredible benefits to your body.  All of the yoga poses reinforce muscles surrounding the spine (which is the center core of your body) and the core is where everything operates.  When your core is functioning properly, your posture improves which in turn can alleviate neck, shoulder and back pain.

Yoga postures help to improve and strengthen your body from the inside out which not only help you look good but feel good.  When you combine yoga with a healthy, organic diet your digestive system will get back on track.  This helps to alleviate IBS (irritable bowel syndrome, constipation and acid reflux).
